Developer Frogwares have today released more details and a new trailer of their upcoming detective game, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments. Frogwares have developed a number of Sherlock Holmes titles in the past and with the success of the the Hollywood films and the BBC series, the famous detective is more popular than ever. Lets take a look at what we know so far about the game.
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is primarily a detective game that will see players working to solve murders, tracking down the suspects and piecing together the evidence. For this title though, Frogwares were keen to let the player come up with their own conclusions based on the evidence that they find as they play. This means that each case has a number of different outcomes depending on how the player goes about solving it and the conclusions they piece together in their own minds. With this system it becomes entirely possible to get it wrong and to condemn someone completely innocent but it also offers a much deeper level of immersion where the player has control of the investigation.
Speaking today on the Playstation Blog, Frogwares Olga Ryzhko stated –
“Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is a detective game; it needs you to think. The game focuses heavily on investigation, and with an emphasis on narration, too. There’s a lot of exploration and clue collecting, speaking to witnesses and suspects, and — the most important aspect — bringing all of these together to make your own deductions and bring the culprits to justice… or setting them free.”
“Your innate deduction skills will also allow you to react to a piece of information divulged by the person in question. You then have several seconds to link it to another clue you picked up earlier and to then deduce yet another key element that another investigator would have overlooked!”
Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments is currently due for a Spring release and will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and now also confirmed for the PS4.
