A host of new screenshots for the last DLC in the Lost Crowns series for Dark Souls 2 has been released, as well as a little info on what you can expect this time. Despite the fact that the DLC’s were never originally planned during Dark Souls 2’s development, and many fans though From Software were simply cashing in when they suddenly announced them, the Lost Crowns series has become extremely popular regardless.
Keeping with the theme of these DLC’s, the Crown of the Ivory King will take players to a brand new environment and introduce some new enemies, features and mechanics. In Crown of the Ivory King, you’ll travel to the Shrine of Winter where, as the name would suggest, the cold weather plays an important role in your experience. The main new mechanic players will face is the changing weather, where snow storms can appear at any time to drastically cut your field of view. The weather is designed to disorientate and confuse you as you try and make your way around the zone, but also plays another role as certain items can only be accessed during specific types of weather.
The other new feature will be the addition of followers, special NPC characters who will join up with you during the course of your quest. Apparently, the more followers you have by the end of the DLC, the easier the final boss will be, though From Soft have of course not released any information of how this system works or where you might find your allies.
Other than these new additions, you can expect the usual addition of new enemies and punishing new bosses. The Crown of the Ivory King is supposedly the hardest DLC by far and will feature an extra challenge route, as with the other DLC’s, to test the most hardcore of players. Once all three DLC’s have been completed, players will be able to receive a special reward though it’s not been revealed what this might be.
The Crown of the Ivory King will release on September 24th for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
