MOBA’s, or Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, have become phenomenally popular over the past few years, with a whole host of different titles from different publishers out there, and many more planned for the future.
While it wasn’t the first MOBA, League of Legends was undoubtedly the first game to reach massive levels of success and begin the rapid rise of MOBA popularity which now sees the genre at the top of the professional competitive gaming scene. Riot Games have now reached a massive number of 27 million players that log into the game every single day, with monthly numbers hitting 67 million.
The success and sudden rise in popularity of League of Legends is clear to see when, in October 2012, the daily player count was only 12 million. Whats more, the current player count at peak times each day is now hitting over 7.5 million at once, which again has risen quickly, last March the peak number was just 5 million.
