Not long ago I wrote about my history with football video games, and in particular my love for the Kick Off and Sensible Soccer series.
As if hearing the sirens call, both of the two Lords of 1990s football games development, Dino Dini (Kick Off) and now Jon Hare (Sensible Soccer) have announced their return to the field, revealing their respective new football games in development.
Dino Dini, who had developed Goal! and Player Manager too, had put out a video in mid-October to announce Kick Off Revival. This will be made for PS4 and PS Vita, due for release before the end of 2016. Sony are backing the game and Dino will be tweeting updates via @dndn1011 too.
Jon Hare of Sensible Software fame (remember Cannon Fodder, Mega Lo Mania, Wizball and of course Sensible Soccer itself) has now announced he is working the development of Sociable Soccer, for PC, XBoxOne and PS4, and invites backers through a Kickstarter campaign.
In his Kickstarter campaign video, Hare shows some early development footage and introduces the team he is working with. Even after just a month of development it is already looking in good shape. The key “sociable” aspect is highlighted, through the addition and focus of the online multiplayer feature.
The Sociable Soccer Kickstarter campaign hopes to raise £300,000 by 12th December 2015, and at the time of writing has achieved over £16,000 after less than 24 hours. As news spreads and word of mouth gathers pace, I would expect the target to be achieved. Updates will be put through Sociable Soccer’s Twitter feed, @Sociable_Soccer
Hopefully both Kick Off Revival and Sociable Soccer will stand true to the quality of the 1990s phenomenons that Kick Off and Sensible Soccer were.
