With rumors of financial woes in the previous weeks, Crytek has now sold off one of their newly acquired Intellectual Properties. Deep Silver, known for publishing the Dead Island series among others, has now fully acquired the rights to develop the Homefront series. They confirmed this acquisition on their Twitter account today.

Along with grabbing the rights, Deep Silver has also opened up a new studio to work on the previously announced Homefront: The Revolution. Deep Silver Dambuster Studios will now take over with developing The Revolution for the next gen systems. Crytek has released an official statement on the deal:
“Firstly, Crytek has been in extensive discussions with leading producer and distributor of digital entertainment products, Koch Media, regarding the acquisition of rights for the “Homefront” IP. On completion of the proposed acquisition, the Homefront team from Crytek’s Nottingham studio would transfer their talents to Koch Media in compliance with English law and continue their hard work on upcoming shooter, “Homefront: The Revolution”. Both parties hope to finalize and implement a deal soon”
Although it was already set to publish the newest Homefront title, leaving Crytek to develop, it appears that Deep Silver is taking the helm fully with this acquisition. With all of Crytek’s financial problems as of late, it was rumored that the open-world FPS would be unable to continue with Crytek developing. This could have been the reason for this full acquisition by the big publisher. Although Crytek has stated that their UK based studio who was working on The Revolution will “transfer their talents” to Deep Silver, it’s still unknown whether or not they will make up the team at Dambuster Studios.
Homefront: The Revolution was scheduled for a 2015 release window but this news could possibly alter that. There has been no official word yet from Deep Silver if this is the case and it’s still expected to release next year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
