In yesterday’s Smash Bros. focused Nintendo Direct, the three final DLC characters for Smash Bros WiiU and Smash Bros 3DS were revealed. In addition to the previously announced Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 (who is newly available for purchase as of last night), Smash will also gain Corrin, the main character from the upcoming Fire Emblem Fates (due to release in 2016), and Bayonetta, the gun-toting witch from the Bayonetta series. Nintendo will also release new stages that correlate to the DLC characters, including a FF7 Midgar stage that can be torn apart by materia summons and a beautiful free-falling Bayonetta stage. There will be additional Mii costumes released as well, so you can dress your Mii up like Knuckles from the Sonic the Hedgehog games or Geno from Super Mario RPG.
Sadly, this means that Ridley and Goku, two of the most spammed names on Nintendo Miiverse, didn’t make the cut. Personally, I was hoping for Dixie Kong or Midna, but that just leaves some characters to be added to the inevitable Smash Bros NX, whenever that’s announced. Until that time, hopefully hard-working series creator Masahiro Sakurai will be allowed a much-deserved vacation. After all, the poor guy suffers from calcific tendonitis, which can’t be helpful in a game that requires constant smashing.
