The first quarter of this year started us off strong with games like Far Cry Primal and Telltale’s Walking Dead: Michonne, but let’s not forget the games still yet to come out in the first half of this year. Here is a list of five upcoming games yet to be released in Q2.
Brought to us by Gearbox Software, the creators of Borderlands, is the first person “hero shooter” Battleborn. This game is a space-fantasy which takes place on the last known life-supporting star called Solus. Alien races from across the galaxy have divided into factions and contributed their best fighters, known as battleborn, to fight against the Varelsi.
Battleborn is an online battle arena style game featuring 25 playable character types with unique weapon sets and powers. In the arena, each player will be reset to the same basic level at the beginning of the round, so learning new attacks and unlocking weapons will occur during combat. A campaign mode is also available in both single player or up to four person multiplayer.
Battleborn is scheduled for release on PC, PS4 and Xbox on May 5, 2016.
This year Naughty Dog is bringing us part four of the Uncharted series. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End takes place several years after the events of the third game. It will once again follow the life of Nate Drake, famed fortune hunter. Nate’s life is once again upheaved when his long dead brother Sam shows up on his doorstep seeking his help. Nate must uncover the truth about Libertalia, a long lost pirate colony, and the treasure supposedly hidden inside.
Uncharted 4 seeks to up the ante for this installment with bigger environments to explore and an arsenal of new combat moves. The game will be released exclusively for the PS4 May 10, 2016.
After an 11 year wait, the fourth installment of the Doom franchise is slated for release in Q2 this year. This is going to be a highly anticipated game for players who love shooting big monsters with bigger guns. Many of the old favorites like the BFG 9000 will be included in this game, as well as a few new toys with which to cause destruction. There will, of course, be several different styles of multiplayer matches included in Doom. There will also be a tool which allows players to create their own custom maps for multiplayer modes.
The creators of Doom state that this game is not a reboot like Doom 3, but it is also not a sequel either. We are all curious to find out exactly what will be included in the thirteen hour campaign mode the developers have created.
Doom will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 13, 2016.
2008’s first person parkour game is getting a reboot in Q2 of this year. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is the origin story of Faith Connors as she fights to overthrow the totalitarian government in the city of Glass.
The parkour element of the game is receiving a major overhaul which will open up the world for a better free-running experience, and will also feature focus mode which allows Faith to dodge enemy bullets. The option to steal and use enemy guns has also been removed in favor of a parkour-themed combat system. A multiplayer option will also be available in Catalyst, which will allow players to create their own time challenges and races.
Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on June 7, 2016.
This Q2 season we are expected to receive a new installment in the Resident Evil series. Umbrella Corps will be an online multiplayer shooter with the option to be played in either first or third person. It will take place a couple of years after the events of Resident Evil 6. Players will be mercenaries hired to investigate and acquire secret technology and bioweapons from the fallen Umbrella Corporation. The goal of the game will be to fight mercenaries hired by rival factions in order to complete their mission.
Umbrella Corps will not contain a campaign mode, but it will include a single player mode called The Experiment in which the player must face up to twenty waves of enemies.
Umbrella Corps is slated for release on PC and PS4 on June 21, 2016
