Blizzard has announced The Summer Games, their first seasonal event for their highly stylized team-based shooter Overwatch. The seasonal event will include the release of special seasonal Loot Boxes, allowing players to acquire over 100 new cosmetic items for the game. Detailed over the official “Overwatch” blog, the Loot Boxes collected throughout the Summer Games will feature a new look.
“Players will have a chance to find a variety of new cosmetic items commemorating the Summer Games—including themed sprays, emotes, victory poses, highlight intros, player icons and some very special skins. Though they can’t be purchased with credits, each seasonal Loot Box you receive is guaranteed to contain at least one item from our Summer Games 2016 collection,” the developer said.
Anything acquired during the Summer Games season will remain unlocked forever, but on 22nd August, all of the new collection items will return to the vault.
The season will also include Blizzard’s latest brawl, Lúcioball! Lúcioball is a futuristic soccer experience in which players compete in a 3v3 match. The setting is the Estadio das Ras in Rio de Janeiro. The arena will increase the players’ abilities, so they can perform more powerful moves.
The Summer Games is the first seasonal event for Overwatch. Blizzard has already promised that there will be more coming to the game in future. The event is already live on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
