Sony have officially reduced the retail price of the PlayStation TV from it’s release from £84.99 to £44.99.
Released in November 2014, the PlayStation TV is Sony’s set-top box that allows you to stream HD games over wifi from your PS4 or over the web via PlayStation Now. Also able to play PlayStation Vita games via a dedicated PS Vita card slot or by digitally downloading games from PSN, this device appears to be primarily designed for gamers who are already part of the Sony ecosystem but who might have a second TV stashed away on which they would like to game.
The PlayStation TV came under criticism in the UK for its high price-point, especially as the initial purchase doesn’t include any controller at all (required to use the device) or a memory card onto which to store your downloaded games. By slashing the price almost in half, the overall cost of setting up a PlayStation TV has been significantly reduced.
Hopefully the lower price point makes this product more successful as the more people who own devices that can play PS Vita games the more likely we are to see bigger and better Vita games in the future.
