Four years ago a mod team released JC2-MP – a mod for Just Cause 2 which allowed hundreds of players to join a server and enjoy open-world madness together. The mod was built by reverse engineering the original game so that each player’s game client could remain in sync with the server – an impressive feat of engineering, especially for an unpaid mod-team.
JC2-MP was so successful that Avalanche Studios backed the mod team and allowed them to publish JC2-MP on Steam, bringing the mod to even more players. More recently, the team behind JC2-MP were, naturally, hard at work on JC3-MP for Just Cause 3. Unfortunately (from our perspective at least), Avalanche Studios recently hired Cameron Foote, one of the main programmers behind the JC3-MP modding project, which meant that the progress on the project was halted.
Luckily for us, another mod team have also been working on a multiplayer mod for Just Cause 3, confusingly called JC3:MP. The Nanos Team have previously worked on other MP mods for games such as GTA V and Mafia 2 and have recently reached beta for their Just Cause 3 MP mod. You can check out the tailer below…
The JC3:MP mod allows users to host their own servers to play with their friends (and many more). The mod also includes server side scripting so that users are able to script their own awesome game modes and rules. If you feel daring enough to try out a beta release, you can find out more on the Nanos community.
