We love first person shooters because they allow us to view the game world through the eyes of the protagonist. In a way, they immerse us more thoroughly into the experience as we run and gun.
2016 has been a big year for first person shooters so far. In the first few months we saw the release of massive AAA shooters like DOOM and Overwatch. Which upcoming games are fans of FPS looking forward to the most?
Here are five of the most talked about first person shooters soon to be released:
Step into the shoes of Lo Wang, and become a modern day ninja mercenary. Shadow Warrior 2 is a direct sequel to the Shadow Warrior remake released in 2013. This game sports a variety of guns and projectile weapons, as well as Lo Wang’s signature katana. Use your expert fighting skills to gun and slash through demonic hordes sent to earth from another dimension.
Shadow Warrior 2’s official release date has not yet been announced. Developers are aiming to have the game released sometime later in 2016. This game will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Our favorite cyber-punk first person shooter is also getting a sequel this year. Adam Jensen returns as the main protagonist of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This new Deus Ex game is set two years after the events of Human Revolution. In the not too distant future, mankind has begun to improve take an evolutionary step forward with the use of cybernetic augmentations. It is Adam Jensen’s job to investigate and take down a terrorist group full of augmented humans.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on August 23, 2016.
Become a Marine in the Galactic Federation in the newest Metroid Prime game for the 3DS. Federation Force will be similar in concept and design to the previous Metroid handheld game Metroid Prime Hunters. In the world of Federation Force players will be able to explore three separate planets with highly diversified environments, such as tundra and desert terrains. Players will recognize old fan favorite alien enemies like Space Pirates, and get to enjoy a few new additions like the Goliath Beetles.
Federation Force will focus on multiplayer campaigns. Teams can customize their characters and weapons and work as a group to complete missions and objectives on alien worlds.
Metroid Prime will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on August 19, 2016.
Cloud Imperium Game’s upcoming Star Citizen is a combination first person shooter and space exploration game. In order to obtain citizenship in the United Empire of Earth, each citizen must perform a service such as enlisting in military service. Players can earn their citizenship and explore a massive online multiplayer universe. Taking certain paths will give each player in-game benefits such as lower tax rates on goods, and so on. Lawless planets scattered throughout the universe will feature open combat for the opportunity to salvage ships and abandoned settlements.
Star Citizen will be a PC exclusive, and will potentially be able to support the Oculus Rift. The game is scheduled for release sometime late in 2016.
Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game will be excited to hear that there will be a Warhammer video game released in 2016. Space Hulk will be set in the Warhammer universe, and feature the lore fans of the franchise know and love. It will, of course, be a first person shooter, and will also presumably be a massive online multiplayer experience. Considering the source material I am expecting a lot of time and effort will be put into creating customizable characters with which to cause havoc.
Space Hulk: Deathwing will be released later in 2016, and it will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Which first person shooters are you looking forward to playing the most? With E3 coming up we will likely have far more than five first person shooters to look forward to in the coming months. Happy hunting everyone!
