Many retrogaming fans will know of somewhere not too far from them that still allows people to waggle their joysticks and hadouken in peace. In London, there is the Heart of Gaming.
Opening in summer 2013, much of their stock of arcade cabinets came from the long-departed Funland from the Trocadero centre in London’s Piccadilly. Viewers of Challenge TV’s “Videogame Nation” will recognise the venue appearing in the the background behind many of their interviewees.
Aside from the arcade cabinets, they had separate rooms for relaxing and partaking in more modern-day gaming.
Disgracefully, earlier this week the Heart of Gaming suffered a break-in, with a number of TV’s and all of their next generation gaming equipment stolen, inclding all the consoles, the games, the peripherals.
Heart of Gaming founder Mark Starkey commented
“We live in very sad times. Last night the Heart of Gaming was broken into and burgled.
The Good news: No one was around and no one was hurt, which is the main thing. The arcade machines were thankfully not vandalised, as this is the element of the HoG that would literally have been irreplaceable”
The Heart of Gaming has set up a crowdfunding page ( http://www.gofundme.com/zyxj9w ) to appeal for money to replace stolen items. We hope their insurance will cover most of this, though numerous fans of the venue have already donated over £3,000 in under 24 hours to help them along.
The Heart of Gaming is located at 10 Cullen Way, London NW10 6JZ
