After more than a decade since it’s release, Microsoft announced today it will no longer be manufacturing Xbox 360 consoles. Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, said “…[T]he realities of manufacturing a product over a decade old are starting to creep up on us.”
You will still be able to purchase new Xbox 360’s at stores that have remaining inventory. If you own the console, you’ll still be able to play online, shop through the Xbox store for more games, and be able to purchase accessories at retailers.
Last November, Microsoft revealed backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, so ceasing production of the Xbox 360 doesn’t come as a huge surprise.
